Just got back from a business trip. Stayed at the Red Lion on 5th avenue. I was pleasantly surprised by how walkable and clean the downtown area was. And even moreso by the amount of foot traffic. I'm a not a walker. I drive everywhere since I live in the suburbs of Salt Lake City. Seattle was beautiful. Walked down to Pike Place Market, looked at all the little shops, tried clam chowder at Steamers & Ivar's, took a ferry ride over to Bainbridge (best $7 I ever spent.) I'm not much of a shopper but I really enjoyed all the walking. I would never consider walking in downtown Salt Lake at night, but Seattle was well lit and people were really friendly and helfpul. Was great to see a few dogs while I was visiting as I was REALLY missing my dog while away from home.

Thanks for the hospitality. I'll be back!

How about public transportation from the Airport to Downtown? was that pretty easy as well? and how much was the fare?

Took a cab from the airport to the hotel. The fare was $41 + tip. Took the hotel's town car from the hotel to the airport for the same fare. The concierge said they'd take me for the same as cab fare but with using their town car, I didn't have to wait for a cab.

The hotel's website stated cab fare was $27-$32 from the airport. I mentioned they might want to update their website with the newer rates.

Here are some links for you:

Starting in December you will be able to take the light rail train directly from the airport to downtown for about $2.50 or so.

Well you can still take the light rail from Tukwila (which is a short distance from the airport) to downtown. I believe there is a shuttle bus between the two but I am not sure.

There is a free shuttle that takes all of 5 minutes to get from the airport to the Tukwila station. From there, its about a 35 minute ride to Westlake station (the downtown/retail core). Starting December, the link connecting the airport and Tukwila will open and it will be one, seamless trip. I used this when I returned from a Vegas trip about a month ago, and its SO much better than taking a cab or taking the 194.
