I stashed all my tools, extension cords (copper), pumps and valuables in a stack of hay bales. I put a bottom layer of 120 lb bales, a second layer and a top layer. Against the back against the barn wall I removed a bale of the second layer and filled the space with valuable 'stuff' while I am gone half a year. Stacking these bales was not easy since I weigh 120lbs myself. I loaded them off my truck with a ramp made of 2x6's and Factor D (Determination).
I looked at the on the website. Too obvious for me.
From my experience ( as a scene investigator) , After the looters break in (it's usually two), they go immediately to the master bedroom, close the drapes and pull the pillow covers off the pillows.
Toss the mattress and check for guns etc.
Pull out all of the dresser and nightstand drawers and empty the contents on the bed sheet.
check the drawers for taped items on the bottom etc. then toss them in the corner out of the way.
Toss the closets looking for guns, especially rifles hanging within coats etc.
Check the shoes.
Tip the dressers and stands over.
Check above and behind the closet doors for hidden shotguns etc.
They toss everything that is small of value in the pillow cases
Next is the home office for computers, tablets, cell phones etc.
Garage for small tools if it's attached to the house with entry from the house.
120 seconds and they are ............gone!
If they see a safe, they might case your house and return much later with the proper equipment to pop it open.
All thieves should be shot dead on sight. Have a few neighbors with that mindset and watch property theft crime drop to near zero fast.
I know a man in his seventies now, living alone out in the country here in the Bible Belt, who came home twelve years ago to see a black man running out of his house . He killed the guy. His father had been a popular attorney in our town of 110,000 residents; he is a builder. It was a big deal here. He was tried and found innocent.
That 70 y.o. man was lucky to have been declared innocent. I may need to move to TX.
I heard that if you kill a thief while getting away, one might encounter some harsh judgement yourself.
Sorry didn't mean to hijack thread.
