Prowling the jammed mall lot draws unfriendly attention from security and police.
ST. PETERSBURG - Larry DiSalvo called Saturday the worst shopping day of his life.
Not even close.
There he stood in the Tyrone Square Mall parking lot, surrounded by three police cruisers and mall security. Police had searched and interrogated him. All the while, DiSalvo said, shoppers gawked, perhaps wondering whom he had killed.
The 57-year-old said he was guilty of one thing: forgetfulness. He lost his 1991 Grand Marquis in a sea of 6,000 parked cars.
It may have been a little harsh to ban him for life.....but apparently they had reason and suspicion to think otherwise....good for the police and the observant witnesses.
If I ever forget where I've parked in a crowded parking lot I set off my car alarm...I find it real quick that way....it works wonders....lol
But then with all the noise the alarm makes you better hop that security doesn't think you're trying to steal a car--yours!
Good point StillwaterTownie,...but...I've done it enough times, and do you know that most people in the immediate area will not even take a second look to see what's going on???.. It's amazing...people hear an alarm and just figure it's nothing, I guess? ....very odd world we live in...
If I hear an alarm go off I will sure as heck check it out...at least look to see if someone is in distress or needs help.
I don't believe that it is common for a 50-something, seemingly successful man to be stealing cars in the middle of the day, at a mall. Once the initial mis-understanding was cleared up, that should have been the end of it. Such a lack of common sense! What a bunch of nincompoops!
