I need to get a reasonably-priced (hopefully no more than $15), handheld 4x or 5x power magnifying glass. I thought it would be easy to find online. I Googled & went on Amazon, but after reading through what I found & reviews of what people said about the products, this is going to be tougher than I thought.

I've already searched my local office supply stores (OfficeMax, Staples, Office Depot) & Barnes & Noble too. The only power they have is 2x, maybe 2.5x. (Some may mainly be 2x, but this tiny spot of a stronger power, which is way too small to view anything adequately.) Anyone know where I can buy one?

You may want to look for loupes instead. They are higher power. There is a practicality of the optics involved in the magnification ranges. Also, there may be close-up lenses for the camera on a cell phone that would do the job.

Loupes are a good idea. Also, for a little larger viewing area, look for something called a Linen Tester (for counting threads). I use one for examining art prints. Be sure it's glass, not plastic.

Thanks a lot. I'll check those out. I just wish the magnifier I need wasn't so small so that I have to move my hand a lot to scan what I need to. Oh well, I should be able to find something out of those links you guys posted.

I ended up trying this 5x one, so I hope it's good:

I need it for a VERY important exam in Oct, so if I don't like it, I have time to find something else. I wanted to also try the page-size flat ones, but I just ordered this so far.
