I recently purchased some software online that requires a product key to activate. The vendor allowed a "trial period" without activation although there is nothing on their website regarding trial periods OR refunds.
I honestly tried to make use of the software however it is worthless. I have freeware that is better.
I have tried twice to contact the vendor about a possible refund but he hasn't responded. I have NOT activated the product and have no plans to do so.
In this case would it be worth it to dispute the purchase with paypal? Again the vendor did not have any policy on his website regarding refunds. If he had stated "no refunds" I might not have purchased. (It is software you have to try in order to know if it is going to be helpful).
Should I dispute with paypal? He did deliver the product but it is not as expected.
Did you receive the key when you received the software? If so, I think you are stuck w/the purchase unless the seller agrees to take it back.
I didn't get the key until a week later. It was a 250 dollar investment that didn't work as well as some freeware I already had. The vendors video's were misleading on its usefulness.
I guess I am prepared to eat the loss however I will make it a point to warn others about the vendors "no refund" policy and my experience with the software.
I'd suggest a reverse on the credit card charge. Contact them directly.
Dispute that way.
It's still a product and your credit card allows disputes for this very reason.
When my uncle got scammed on a software ..He disputed and got his funds returned. Usually you have one billing cycle to initiate the dispute.
Skip Paypal, go directly to your credit card. I once went through Paypal for a reversal due to buying digital service. The service was never rendered, so I wanted my money back and try to reverse the payment. Paypal ruled AGAINST me because they say when it comes to digital stuff, they side with the Sellers. That was the last time I used Paypal.
Update- I filed a complaint with PayPal and the seller agreed to refund my money. It didn't go to Paypal's arbitration; they just forwarded my complaint.
It was a "digital" product however it required a license key to operate. Since the seller has control of the product and I did not activate it I guess he figured he should do the refund.
He never did respond to any of my e-mails.
