Here is my experience where I live:

Wal-Mart - always kind of dirty, never enough checkout stands open, employees look like they escaped from prison (most have major tattoos, and some, quite frankly, stink), but the shelves are always stocked, though they do place a lot of damaged goods on the shelves (cans dented, stuff cracked, bags ripped), employees do know where things are at and are happy to show you (so yes, looks can be deceiving, lol)

Target - always clean and well lighted, but the shelves are not stocked, employees stand around the instore Starbucks gossiping, not enough checkout stands open, lots of mismarked/mispriced items, always seem to be renovating the inside of the store, especially the grocery section where they shut down the frozen and refrigerated food areas for weeks at a time, employees do not know where things are at, no diversity in the workforce (the hiring manager seems to have a strong preference for blondes)

So where do I shop? Wal-Mart, because at Target "I can't buy it if you don't stock it".

In my county there are a multitude of Super Walmarts, Walmarts, and Walmart Neighborhood stores and none of the employees look like ex-cons, nor do they stink. Product is not damaged.

Our Target stores are not anything as you described.

I choose WM because of the lower prices.
