Everybody likes bargains whether they come at garage sales or in the stores..what is the one unbelievable bargain you've come across? I remember years ago, I "discovered" a very high end purse hidden underneath some towels at Goodwill! Brand new--I couldn't believe it What are some of your discoveries?
My grandmother purchased scenic painting in an antique store many years ago. My mother liked the painting so grandma gave it to her. After about 20 years my mother tired of it, so she gave it to me.
I started dating a girl who saw the painting and thought it was valuable. I took pictures of it and mailed them to Sotheby's along with the measurements, signature, date on canvas, etc. Six months later the painting was part of the Sotheby's 'American Painters' auction. After the listing fee, commission, catalog fee, etc., I received a check for close to $10,000.
One of my workers husband needed some quick cash so he told me he would sell me one of his guns, I said I don't know anything (or need one) about guns but I knew he needed the money so I gave him $200, the next day I was at the local barber shop getting my sons' hair cut, and mentioned it to the barber, (he bought & sold guns out of the barber shop) I told him what I bought and asked how much was it worth......... he couldn't tell me how much it was worth but he offered me $1,000 cash on the spot. (ex-husband ended up with the gun)
My wife and I have been given the same car three times, and twice we sold it back to the original owner for $500 a shot. (But then he's family.)
