Right now I am using a Kitchenaid and it is great. I've also had Cuisinart, but the KA has held up longer and it is used daily.

Best quality hands down: Vitamix. But you pay dearly for it. Tho you can catch specials when they do roadshows at Costco usually once a quarter or so and you can pick it up around $400. This is the "King of Blenders"-nothing else even compares (at least not until you get into true "commercial" grade products for like restaurants and stuff). Tho VitaMix prefers to be called a "whole food machine" rather than a blender lol!

I saw today Bed Bath Beyond is now carrying Blend-Tec-->the next best thing to VitaMix. Wonder if they let you use the constantly multiplying 20% off coupons you get in the mail? I dont like the digital stuff on Blendtec. You have more control (and less electronics to break) and more power on VitaMix.

To give you a hint how serious of a machine VitaMix is, it is measured in HORSEPOWER (as in the same thing that moves you car) lol! It can go a max 240 mph lol (my car doesn't even go that fast)! But if you ever want to see a machine chew through solid ice cubes like they are butter, this is it.

It may be a tad pricey. But imho it is worth every penny. It will last forever. If you want a serious high-end blender and can afford it, there is no question VitaMix is the way to go.
