The MLS has really been boosted by adding markets where people are coming out to support their teams.

The 6th team is the New York Red Bulls, whose attendance is up 48% from last year due to the completion of their new soccer only stadium.
NASL had little to no business plan and ran themselves into the ground. The NFL would have failed if it was ran the way that league was. It had nothing to do with the sport but the business side of it.
The MLS is extremely well ran as is most of it's franchises. The Sports Business Journal has consistently called MLS the best ran sports league in the country and they are the authority on the sports business in the US.

Yep. Barring some catastrophe that affects the sporting landscape of the entire US (like, the kind of catastrophe that makes sporting moot), MLS is here to stay.

I agree. Especially with Portland, Vancouver, and Montreal joining the league. All 3 of which are soccer crazed cities with awesome fans.
I admit, being from Phoenix and not having a team, I have not followed the MLS the way I follow the EPL and LA Liga. But to dredge up something from the 1970's as a model of soccer in the states today is just being foolish. The support has been growing with every season as has the product on the field. And yes, it is a launching pad for players to get deals in Europe (I see that as a good thing, we have some great young players here who deserve to play with the best in the world), but so are the leagues in Brazil and Argentina. Tell me those leagues suck. You can't. I wish the MLS nothing but good luck in the future. To the "soccer sucks" crowd, sorry, it's here. And it ain't goin anywhere, anytime soon. People have no clue what is going on with the MLS. They just assume that it is going to fail for some reason when it has been success.
