HELP!!!!!
Moved to Summerville from NJ 2months ago, from Monmouth County. It's been a bit harder to adjust than i thought. Anyone out there moved from New Jersey, that can help me with some questions regarding the area. A lot of trailer parks, pockets of neighbors not seem really unkept. I'm trying to keep an open mind....

I moved from Matawan, NJ to the Summerville area 2 1/2 years ago. No doubt SC has a lot of trailer parks and some are not well kept. I live in a nice subdivision with almost 500 homes. Some neighbors are friendly others are not. Can't say it was any different in NJ. What I found surprising down here are the families that keep moving every few months. I keep seeing homes go up for sale where the families only moved in 12-16 months ago. You barley get to know someone and they are moving already.

Guy, this ain't Jersey. Not everyone is gonna pay to manicure their lawns. It is a different culture and lifestyle here. Do not expect to move to the DEEP SOUTH and think it's gonna be like an NYC suburb. I moved from Morris. I vastly, vastly, vastly (read: never entering NJ again) prefer it here, but I knew what it was like (thru various visits) before I pulled the trigger.
why did you move here to begin with? If it was strictly climate induced and not for a desire for a change of lifestyle/mindset, you probably made a mistake.

Have you spent time Downtown? Third Thursday is fun. Lots of shops open. We love Accent on Wine, in the square. They even have parades. The Flowertown Festival attracts half a million people to the area.

Take a ride down Ashley River Road. Middleton Place is beautiful. In the spring, they have wine tastings and you can wander the grounds with a glass of wine. Bring your own glass.

Summerville is full of beautiful neighborhoods along with newer builds. Many of them have HOA's.

You are about 40 minutes from Charleston. Hang in there.

My husband grew up in Eatontown. So that's kind of our home base. His family is still up there. We've moved around a bit. We didn't really enjoy it down here at 1st. But it's definitely grown on me. My husband...he's not as bitter as he was when we 1st moved here. I'll give him that. I'm a little more active in the Lowcountry because I'm in Real Estate. So, I see more than my husband does. Feel free to email me if you want to chat. It's hard moving somewhere new...especially if you're not sure that you're liking it.

Happens all over SC. As areas expand they do so into rural areas were at one time, one could pretty build or live in most anything they wanted to. I believe SC is in the top 3 states for mobile homes per capita. I know of some $500K home cost neighborhoods where one has to drive through old, filth, dilapidated mobile home neighborhoods to get to. Some locales have rules on what can replace that old mobile home but plan on them being there for quite a while.

There are parts of Jersey much like that.

I was born and raised in Jersey, in Ny now, and relocating to SC. The only thing that scares me is the racism.
