NC does have a better education system, though.

NC has a larger number of 'bad' schools tho, because it has a larger number of schools. I believe it has twice as many schools. If NC's education system is better, it wouldn't have so many 'bad' schools.

The schools in urban areas and rural areas in both states tend to have low school scores.

DC Fairwinds,
You must visit Aiken. Look up online, and come down and visit.
It has everything you are looking for, and then some.

By doing just a simple CityData type comparison, it is a difference of night and day from Vermont as you must realize. fer instance, total threads - 35000 - 3300, population is another and I'll have to mention racial % with the population comparison. I'm a lifer and know nothing else and I feel pretty content with it.

as for making a change, I'd have to really want it.

I don't agree the higher education is better in NC than SC. UNC and NC State are both good schools but they are not any better than USC and CU.

I think we went down a similar road on a different thread, but it's pretty hard to back up your claims there. However what I will say is that the UNC system is much better structured than the university system (or lack thereof) in SC. The 16 or so universities in the system aren't all world-beaters, but the efforts to promote higher ed in NC have had a tangible positive effect on the state for decades. So it isn't even just about Clemson, USC, NC State and Chapel Hill.

And I say that as a holder of degrees from universities in both states.

that is b/c you base everything on a 3rd party publication like US News and you don't appear to look at their criteria in detail. how does US news credibly rank programs that lead to occupations that they have never worked in? I told you my experience in my occupation about how these schools are viewed and you don't want to accept that.

how much do you know about SC and CLemson's impact on the state of SC? CU is involved in a lot of stuff all over the state.

A school like UNC is ranked high because of selectivity, but that is the result of supply and demand, NC State and UNC are the two most popular schools in NC, yet given the large population of the state, the school can't enroll as many of them, in comparison to Clemson and USC. If SC's population goes up, so does USC and Clemson's selectivity.

ECU has more students than Clemson, UNC Charlotte is about the same or more, and App State is a little less. SC's 3rd largest school is COC which is like 10,000 students. Most o the students at ECU, UNC-C and ASU applied to at least one of UNC and NC State as well. UNC and NC State can be a lot more selective than USC and CU.

Selectivity doesn't tell you anything about the quality of the professors and programs at a university. But US News and other 3rd party rankings puts a huge emphasis on it.
