I've been looking for a good place for a weekend lunch about midway between Columbia and Summerville. Criteria: open for dine-in, preferably not a chain, prefer southern or even "American" food (bbq is ok). Pet-friendly would be nice, but not a requirement.

So far, I haven't been able to find much.

I know there have to be unique and good local places that don't advertise. Does anyone know of one, maybe in one of the small towns? Anything in Orangeburg other than Cracker Barrel (which hits only 2 of my wants)?

Thanks!

Couple of good spots in Holly Hill or St. Matthews. Take 176 and enjoy the drive.

Every place in there that looked good to me was takeout only, though. Even Sweatman's BBQ said no dine-in.

If you're using Google maps, check with the actual restaurant as I've found their listings to be off.

Covid has stopped a lot of dine-in options.

Sweatman’s was going to be my suggestion.

True.
I'll call them before we decide to go to see what they're currently offering since the situation does change.
We have lots of options here in Summerville so I guess I was hoping to find out about at least one in these smaller towns.

LOVE Sweatman's and hope it works out for you. Of course there's always Waffle House!

Or Cracker Barrel....So far that was all I could come up with.

I know when I traveled the rural areas for work in NC many years ago, I knew all the unknown and local (but good) places to eat in the small towns.

It's hard to believe there aren't more in the area I'm asking about.

Anyway, thanks for answering!

Have you tried the area around the lake off of 95? I feel like that should open up some more options.

There were a few that listed lunch hours (would have to call because their facebooks haven't been updated in a couple of months), but when I checked the driving time, the folks we plan to meet might as well come on to Summerville. I was hoping to find something about halfway between Columbia and Summerville (45 miles or so from either location but closer to Columbia would be fine.)

It looks like it will be Orangeburg....Mama's Kountry Kooking looked interesting but their most recent update said breakfast only on the weekend. A couple in the small towns near Orangeburg were only open for dinner.

Thank you for the suggestion, anyway!
