Tell me about it. I grew up in the Upstate during the Frank Howard era. You either learned to love 'em or hate 'em. After you met enough of their rabid fans, half-mad and foaming at the mouth, it was just easier to hate 'em. Never lost that perspective.
I'm a GA Tech alum. During that time, Clemson was one of our cupcake games. They'd come to the big city on a bus, take a lickin', get a big check and head back home. Funny how times change...
I lived in the upstate for about 15 years and that's where I just couldn't with Clemson fans. Just as you described.
What happened to all the Gamecock flags and magnets that came Out of the woodwork a few years back? Well 5 or 6 years ago now? Gathering dust somewhere I guess.
My flag is out; my sticker’s on the car.
Am I disappointed with play lately? Sure.
Am I disappointed Spurrier just walked out? Sure.
Am I disappointed that Jake Bentley continues to underperform and will return? Sure
Am I disappointed that the Bowl game was a disaster? Sure.
Was I thrilled with Baseball winning back-to-back CWS? Absolutely.
Was I thrilled with Women’s Basketball winning the National Championship. Absolutely.
Was I thrilled with how far Men’s Basketball went the last couple years? Absolutely.
See real fans goes up and real fans go down. It happens.
And, most importantly, daughter had a wonderful experience and got a great education that led to a great job and fabulous salary.
Love South Carolina!

Living in Charleston mitigates the heartache of being a Gamecock for me. It feels like a completely different (much lower) level of emotional involvement with it all. Thank God. But I will pull for the conference over another in-state school.
I would go for SC against a team that has won 5 titles in a short period of time. It is good to see other programs win a natty for the first time.
Most of the trash talking fans of any college are sidewalk fans who didn't attend the university. Most Clemson alumni have friends and family who attended SC.
Clemson people feel the same way about many Carolina fans. I lived in Columbia metro during USC’s “high five years” and it was absolutely miserable. You couldn’t even go eat in the Vista without some trash running their mouth about it. Some of the worst people you’ll see in life reside in or around Williams-Brice on Saturdays in the fall.

You tend to make statements like this that have absolutely no basis or facts to support them.
I'm pretty sure I know more Clemson grads than you do given I went to the college. That's a solid basis. I've also lived all over the state.
I can't see most of the engineers, architects, physicians, chemists, accountants, etc who graduated from Clemson talking trash to SC fans.
