You guys in the Dakotas are getting it done. The boys (my people) on the East coast are too top heavy I guess. I did my research and discovered that North Dakota and South Dakota have: balanced budgets and surpluses, low unemployment, low mortgage delinquency rates... despite the recession. It's as if you are in a bubble.

I know things aren't great, but look at the rest of the country. There are only 13 states with a projected balanced budget or surplus for 2009.You guys are amazing. On top of that, South Dakota has no state income tax.

Dakotans should run the country.Seriously!

Haha! Thanks for the compliments! It's great to hear that our state is admired by others.

It reflects the values of the people here as well. A balanced budget is required by the state constitution.

Kwame, glad you admire our state. There are so many positives here and I truly hope it stays that way. Things are sagging a bit, but hopefully we won't get the full brunt of the recession. And crime rates~have you checked those out? That's also another plus in our state. Weather's not an asset though.

Except for the wind I have no complaints about the South Dakota weather. I'm not a full fledged South Dakota citizen so I still pay state income tax to Pennsylvania.

Yea, the weather is my most hated part of our state. Well, actually it's the only hated part of it for me. It's 4 at my house this morning, but the windchill is 17 below. Not pleasant at all.

I'm with you Jammie -- too cold to suit me. Was not impressed this morning - 5am I'm out there bundled up till I can barely see where I'm going, scraping windshields so I can get to work on time.
Nice to see that the rest of the country sees that we've got some stuff goin on.

When I lived in the dorms and had to run outside quick I'd be the idiot with just pajama pants and a tshirt with no socks runnin to my Jeep in negative temps across snow and ice.....feels exhilarating. I like the cold for some reason.
