Any updates on the ice? Pactola, sheridan, deerfield? Eager to get out and do some ice fishing but haven't had the time to actually go out and check the ice yet. Any updates would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Just read a report on Pactola. Jenny Gulch area had about 3 inches of clear ice.

Sheridan Lake about 2-2.5 inches near boat dock.

Didn't see anything for Deerfield.

But I went to SDO Insider to find the info. HERE

How much ice do you need to be safe?

About a 1 1/2 feet thick for me. I'm paranoid about being out on the ice of a lake or river.

Ask 10 fishermen, you'll probably get 8 different answers. With only a few inches of ice, there will always be someone driving their vehicle out on it.

Really depends on the lake. For instance, up by where I live, the lakes have several springs underneat and can cause thin ice.

But I've driven my pickup out on 8 inches of ice and didn't have a problem. Can walk on ice that's 2 inches thick. I've heard it can be less but like mentioned, I don't like getting out there in less then 2 inches.
