How sad to see that South Dakota legend Dave Dedrick has passed away. I had the fortune of meeting him once and he absolutely lit up the room.

I heard this news last night, and teared up. He seemed so nice and fatherly. I loved Captain 11, and really liked his weather reports.

I was never on the show, but once was on a telethon in the studio. They showed us the set of the newscast and the Captain 11 show. I was like, 'Really, that's it?' It looked bigger than life on tv, and really was just some cheap props. I was devestated.

Amazing what he did with those props, wasn't it?

It always amused me that I didnt figure out what the significance of the number 11 was until I was in my teens or early twenties since KELO has always been either channel 3 or 4 for me. LOL

I moved away from Sioux Falls in 1972 ~ I remember captain 11 very well. He actually played Santa & came to our house when I was young, I guess he was a family friend! I got to be on the show at the downtown studio many times...aaahhhh.
We need new heros, that's for sure.
He will be missed.

I remember arguing with my mom when she told me Captain 11 was also the weather guy....how could that be? That did not diminish my hero Captain 11, it just meant he like Superman was more than one man........but many. He will be missed here but has gone home to the land of heroes....
