https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/n...planets-around

"NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope has revealed the first known system of seven Earth-size planets around a single star. Three of these planets are firmly located in the habitable zone, the area around the parent star where a rocky planet is most likely to have liquid water."

It's about 40 light years away though

I think it's pretty cool! I hope they do a documentary on their findings because I want more information.

That's a hop, skip, and a jump. No problem for my HFT.*

Keep in mind that being in the habitable zone is just one of many requirements for advanced life to potentially exist. Earth, in addition to being in the habitable zone, has a near circular orbit around sun, a stabilizing, life-supporting moon, and a protective Jupiter. Also, earth is not tidally locked to the sun -- which is the case with many cooler stars and their planets that are in the habitable zone.

40 light years away. Those folks on those planets are probably watching Red Fox by now.

I read that if a planet has a thick enough atmosphere it can help distribute the temperature even if tidally lock. Is there any truth to that claim?

Computer simulations say that is possible.
