Keep your eyes on the sky as there may be a chance to see some pretty spectacular Northern/Southern Lights. There was a moderate solar storm that is predicted to amplify auroral activity and push it further south. The flair was produced on March 20 and its effect is expected to reach us by midday Central Time on March 23.
According to the Kp-index (which measures from 0 to 9, with 0 meaning little geomagnetic activity and 9 - extremely strong), this one is around Kp-6 so the Lights can be visible all the way in Portland (OR), Boise (ID), Casper (WY), Lincoln (NE), Indianapolis (IN), Columbus (OH), New York City (NY); Dublin (Ireland), Manchester (England), Hamburg (Germany), Gdańsk (Poland), Vilnius (Lithuania), Moscow (Russia); and last but not least Christchurch (New Zealand).
If the activity is pushed to Kp-7, then Aurora can be visible all the way in Salt Lake City (UT), Denver (CO), Nashville (TN), Richmond (VA); London (England), Brussels (Belgium), Cologne (Germany), Dresden (Germany), Warsaw (Poland); Melbourne (Australia) and Wellington (New Zealand).
