SpaceX moves Starship to launch site, and liftoff could be just days away

SpaceX moved the most flight-ready of its Starship rockets, Ship 24, to a launch site in South Texas on Saturday. While a launch is not imminent this week, it could take place as early as April 10, sources said.

Earlier this week, the company lifted the massive "Super Heavy" first stage of its launch system onto a launch mount at the pad. The next step will involve lifting the Starship upper stage into place, atop the first stage. While these vehicles have been previously stacked for testing, this should be the final time they are positioned on the launch pad before lifting off.

It should be quite a sight to watch this humongous spacecraft finally lift off the pad. Hopefully it will reach orbit.

I'm pretty nervous about this thing reaching orbit and even more so about it returning safely. They've had tremendous success with the Falcons but we're into a whole nuther dimension with Starship. Fingers nervously crossed.

They had several failures with the Falcon 9 before they got most of the problems ironed out. Testing is when you want the problems to occur, so you can fix them without danger to the crew.

LFG!!!!!

Can't wait for this launch. It's going to be spectacular no matter what the outcome. I'll count it as a success if they don't wreck starbase. Everything else is gravy.

This isn't the STS. There are a couple more super heavy boosters and starships almost completed and ready to go if this one lawn darts or has a RUD.

In fact, (likely) no part of this vehicle is going to fly again. The booster is going to land in the gulf and the second stage (with a LOT of luck) is going to land in the Pacific.

Move, FAA, get out the way!
get out the way, ****!
get out the way!

Isn't that what Elon said when F9 Heavy flew? That his only hope was if it blew up, it did it after it cleared the tower?

Green light go: SpaceX receives a launch license from the FAA for Starship

On Friday afternoon—after much angst and anxious waiting by the spaceflight community—the Federal Aviation Administration issued a launch license to SpaceX for the launch of its Starship rocket from South Texas.

"After a comprehensive license evaluation process, the FAA determined SpaceX met all safety, environmental, policy, payload, airspace integration and financial responsibility requirements," the agency said in a statement. "The license is valid for five years."

I don't think we've had a fully-reusable launch system that can achieve orbit before now, so it will be a first when it's accomplished. It's too bad the Super Heavy booster will not attempt a landing this time. That will be exciting to watch.
