Soccer in general and Daniel Beckman in particular! Is there anyone that actually thought this guy was big news? enough allready, soccer will never be big in the US no matter how much people try to hype it!

I'm a sports fan in general although I'm not familiar with soccer at all. While the attention around Beckam and his arrival was extreme, it did draw me to watching professional soccer for the very first time... which I must say I really enjoyed. So, for the sport, I think it was very beneficial. Anytime, someone learns interest in a new activity, I think it's great! I'd actually attend a professional game now... which I would never have before.

Barry Bonds. I never want to hear his name or see his face again. Ugh.

How could Appalachian State's story be overrated? It's one of the biggest upsets in sports history.

Michael Vick's story is justifiably hyped, too. I don't ever remember such a prominent NFL player not only disgracing himself but facing prison time so shortly after being a prime player in his sport.

Now Barry Bonds, I'll give ya

IMO the most overhyped story of the year was the Yankees signing Clemens to that monster contract. He hasn't even come close to being worth what the Yankees are paying him for this season. That they're back in the playoff chase has little to nothing to do with him.

Well, I figured some killjoy would say App State. There's always someone trying to spoil the party. Truth is, I've been hearing about Boise State since their bowl game shocker months and months ago, so I think we can give App a few more days of glory, eh? (Not that I have any problem with people talking about the Boise State victory! That was a great game!)

I think the David BECKHAM (if we're going to be grading on spelling, let's go after both names, eh?) story is overhyped in the sense that not many people cared when he came. Not many Americans, anyway. However, with time, it does benefit the sport. We can't escape soccer forever. It's growing all the time.

Barry Bonds is my pick for overhyped sports story.

David Beckham is by far the most over-hyped sports related story or whatever of the year. They act like this guy is going to revolutionize soccer in the United States when the fact is soccer will never be popular here. No where near as popular as the NFL, MLB, NBA, even NHL. And that is saying something right there. The NHL never was very popular in the US now that it has become a joke it's even less popular.

Nobody wants to watch 30 people on a wayyyy oversized field kick a ball around for 3 hours and score one time. I'd rather go watch the grass grow.
