Tulsa Shock majority owner Bill Cameron wants to move team to Dallas/Fort Worth:
Tulsa Shock Looking to Move to Dallas - KTUL.com - Tulsa, Oklahoma - News, Weather & Sports

Although the team is in the midst of its first winning season since its relocation to Tulsa, I think they would do much better in Dallas/Fort Worth. I think the fans and attendance would be much better. I don't know about... the Dallas Shock though.

WNBA approves move of Tulsa Shock to D-FW for 2016 season
Quote:
The WNBA board of governors has unanimously approved the move of the Tulsa Shock to the Dallas area. The team will finish the 2015 season in Tulsa and move to North Texas for the 2016 season.

The board confirmed that UT-Arlington's College Park Center will be the home court for the relocated team. The Shock, which started in Detroit in 1998 and won WNBA titles in 2003, 2005 and 2008, could take on a new name, though that hasn't been decided.

"As the largest underserved market for women’s sports, this relocation to the DFW metroplex presents significant opportunities to reach an expansive and diverse consumer marketplace that has a proven affinity for women’s basketball, many potential sponsors and access to the nation’s fifth biggest media market," Shock majority owner Bill Cameron said.
Got it right on page 1.

I think what will end up happening in the long run is that they will stay in Arlington temporarily until somebody proposes another home. From a financial stand-point Fort Worth makes the most sense because Arlington already houses the Cowboys and the Rangers. Fort Worth would easily offer a more dedicated fanbase due to the lack of other teams (not including minor league). The one thing that Arlington has over FW is their centralized location, which could attract a little more attendance from the eastern half of the metro. If FW doesn't do it I wouldn't be surprised to find out eventually that a norther suburb looking for a team has offered them a new home.

JJG already knows that I don't approve of the venue choice. 7,000 is a little smaller than the league average but I expect this team's fan base and attendance to blossom in a market like Dallas/Fort Worth. I guess less empty seats will create a better atmosphere but I hope someone in the front office gets the memo. I wonder why or if the American Airlines Center wasn't/was considered?

The league average is around 7300... Not that much smaller.

If they played in the AAC, it would be embarrassing.

The only team in the WNBA that does not play in an NBA-sized arena is the Connecticut Sun. Their place only sits 10,000 people.

Probably the way it should be.

It does not appear to me that Houston attendance in baseball is lagging. The Astros are in the World Series this year and the fans are enthusiastic.
