I am 22 year old guy finally deciding to take a swimming lesson. I went on Saturday and the class looks to have only women in it so I will be the only guy. About five others. They all look in their 30s and maybe some younger but still older than me. I called my mom and said I can't go and to cancel the lesson. She said she will if I really want to. Is this a valid concern or am I worried over nothing?

You are 22 years old and you called your mom to cancel your swimming lessons? Sounds like you should grow a pair and man up.

I would be more concerned with the fact that you cannot cancel the lesson yourself and had to call your Mother to do it for you.
Why not ask your Mother to go to the lesson with you, that way she can protect you from all those unruly women who are there to learn how to swim, just like you.

I still live in my parents house. Also, I prefer my mom do the talking.

it can be embarrassing since it is a swimming lesson and only females there. Especially since I will only be wearing trunks. I can't help but wonder what they will think or assume

So maybe you should invest in a one-piece, but be forewarned to have your man-parts exposed.

I cannot comprehend any problem that exists here other than you are an adult asking your mother to cancel your lessons. So to answer your first question, yes you are worried over nothing.

Is this a cultural shyness?

Being able to swim is your duty as a man if you ever expect to have children.

On my honeymoon (years ago) I had to pull a 12 yo girl out of the water who wasn't a strong enough swimmer for where she was....had it been you there instead you'd have had to watch her drown in front of you.

Man up.
