The ROSE GARDEN at Thornden Park on Ostrom Avenue @ University Place on the eastside of the Syracuse University area is in FULL BLOOM. Yesterday, June 15th I visited there and the weather provided full sunshine with temperatures in the upper 70's; it was a pleasant, enjoyable Syracuse great weather day.
The MILLS ROSE GARDEN is in FULL BLOOM of gorgeous colors and the delightful scent of ROSES wafting through the air. I think the ROSES are an even more beautiful sight in person than when seen in photos. The other day there were a lot of visitors strolling through the Garden and Volunteers from the SYRACUSE ROSE SOCIETY were on hand to talk with visitors and to answer questions that people might have. Many types of ROSE bushes are on display in the ROSE plantings. There are climbing roses on arbors, grandiflora, floribunda, hybrid-tea, double and single flowered roses and other types in the display. Right now, in June is a great time to see this outstanding ROSE GARDEN which has been honored as being in the Top 10 Rose Gardens in the Country. If you like gardening and landscaping, it would be worth your time to visit the ROSE GARDEN-now whether you reside in Metro Syracuse or you have to travel/drive from 30 miles away. Weekdays, the Garden probably has fewer visitors and weekends might be a little more busy with visitors.
When visiting the ROSE GARDEN, I encourage you to enjoy the Garden but please be respectful of the rose displays and don't pick the blooms nor do any damage. Volunteers of the Syracuse Rose Society have done a wonderful job of maintaining the gardens involving a lot of (unpaid) hard work for public viewing of this gorgeous rose garden. Take photos of the ROSES and enjoy the scents of the ROSES, but leave the ROSES undisturbed for other visitors who will be touring the garden.
