OK, out of the cities over 100,000 in population and out the cities that measure their snowfall the City of Syracuse is ranked 26th most Snowiest on planet Earth.
This excludes all of Russia, all of China, all of North Korea since there is no data from most cities in those countries that I was able to find with average annual snowfall data.

29. Boulder, Colorado 93
Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse have updated averages for the past 30 years. All the other cities are averages a few years old. Every city on the list is either in Japan, Canada or the USA. There might be other cities over 100,000 that belong on this list but this is all the data I was able to find with my research.
From 1994 to 2023, Syracuse, NY averaged 119 inches of snow a year.
From 2019 to 2023, Syracuse, NY averaged 83 inches of snow a year. Thought that was interesting.
This could be used to the area's advantage in terms of winter sports activities. For instance, if you look at this map, there are 8 ski areas within an hour of the city, with most within 30 minutes or so: https://www.iskiny.com/ski-new-york/mountains So, that could be another thing to market. Same with snowmobiling.
Many people are very willing to move to so called climate change haven safe cities of Burlington, VT which averages 87 inches of snow a year and Duluth, MN which averages 90 inches of snow a year so I think as long as your city is considered "cool" a large annual snowfall isn't a big deal to many people.
Lots of California people relocate to Bozeman, Montana and Bozeman averages 91 inches of snow a year.
Also, Boulder, Colorado averages 93 inches of snow a year and it is super expensive and attracts a lot investment and newcomers.
The great thing about the Syracuse area is that the snow is very localized. If you want to have much less snowfall every year, you could move to the town of Elbridge, just west of Camillus, which averages about 80 inches of snow a year.
That part of Onondaga County of western Camillus, Marcellus, and Elbridge recieve the least amount of snowfall in the Syracuse area. Which is why I believe it has a lot of potential for future growth and why water and sewer lines should be expanded to the Town of Elbridge as soon as possible.
If people say for example that they are willing to move to the Rochester area for the 20 inches less snow than Syracuse gets, then we can point to moving to Elbridge that gets a little less snow on average than even the Rochester area. It helps Syracuse compete with other places in Upstate NY so that there is no advantage of moving to other places in Upstate NY.

Snowfall isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I believe the Finger Lakes can also have its own localized snow bands as well.
Elbridge could see development due to being in between Auburn and Syracuse, with Camillus being the next town over to the east. It is quite rural and it doesn’t have direct highway access. So, that may play into the amount of development it sees. Weedsport may have a better chance at development due to being just north of Auburn and it is right off of the Thruway, while still being a reasonable drive to Syracuse(and even Rochester).
