Ugh! They are so annoying and only seems to have comed since the temps got into the 90's. They remind me of a locust with a big head and it sits in my back yard cherry tree all day, wiggles its rear end to make a very loud noise. Anyone else having these annoying creatures bothersome?

Good Question - They are one of my favorite bugs - they are called Cicadas. And they actually make loud sounds when the temperature is 84 or above!

I was in the DC area this past weekend and the noise from cicadas was deafening. There is actually a way to precisely measure the air temperature by analyzing the frequency of their sound. They stay buried in the ground for seven years.... come out to mate.... bury their larvae... and I think that's the end of the road until the next generation emerges.
