Hi i currently live in Fl and i am relocating to Syracuse in September. I am trying to find a loft in the downtown area that is pet friendly because I have two small shih tzus. I have searched and it seems that alot of places do not accept dogs. If anyone has and helpful information i would appreciate it. I am looking to spend no more than $850 a month since i will probably have to pay for parking and pet fees.

This is quite sad. I've seen this too and as a result when we move up there it looks like we ether have to buy right away or find our dog a new home We have a big dog (Shar-Pei, Pit Bull mix) and all the places I found in our price range don't alow big dogs or don't have any type of yard that will work for her. This is a tough one for us just because she's such a good dog and really needs a family that will spoil her. She's a big baby. We worry that if we have to find her a new home that she may end out in the wrong hands.

Aww i understand where you are coming from. It's hard for me to find something for small dogs let along big ones. But unfortunately for me i would never be able to get rid of my dogs no matter what. If i have to find a place that is not downtown i will. Well good luck and i hope you decide to keep your dog i'm sure she will have a better home with you no matter where you live.

You guys should check the Mapskrieg page for Syracuse, as you could possibly find a rental home that allows pets.

Also keep in mind that you could find a decent home in a decent to good area at an affordable price with a mortgage for that much. Many of the older suburbs and some of the nicer Syracuse neighborhoods have homes that would fit the bill. You check here: CNYREALTOR.COM | #1 in Syracuse real estate and homes for sale. Search over 6,000 listings. or CNYHomes - the Syracuse and Central New York Real Estate Source

alayana522 and The Magicians Eye:

Try this link, I purposely googled "dog friendly apartments in downtown syracsue" and found the following links which seem to be in your price range...

Downtown Syracuse Apartments for Rent - Downtown, NY Rentals Map Search
http://www.myapartmentmap.com/apartments/ny/syracuse/

I also googled Craigslist, specifically for pet friendly downtown apartments...

syracuse apts/housing for rent classifieds "downtown" - craigslist

You may want to ask others on this forum who live in metro Syracuse for details on areas. You should also check out Downtown Syracuse and navigate their "Real Estate" link. See direct link to "living" downtown...

http://downtownsyracuse.com/static/C6

I also attached their newsletter as an FYI, note the article on "Downtowns 4-legged workforce"...

You should also check out other links...

http://www.armorysquareofsyracuse.com/main/live.php
http://www.armorysquareofsyracuse.com/
http://www.ajfsyracuse.com/index.html

You may also want to check out the Hawley-Green Historic Nieghborhood that is in close (walking) proximity to downtown and the university hill area...

http://www.hawleygreenneighbors.org/
http://syracuse.craigslist.org/apa/1619391752.html (broken link) (AT $650.00, CHECK OUT THIS APARTMENT...PETS WELCOME!!)

Keep in mind that there is a 99% occupancy rate for downtown apartments/condos/lofts, etc, so it may be a challenge...

I hope this helps!

alayna522 - where are you moving from in Florida? I am a native of Syracuse and the metro area is changing for the better, I miss it dearly. The only thing keeping me here in Florida is job related, but that could change!

I am in sw fl area i have been here for 10 yrs i moved here from NJ. I absolutely am over Fl. I have to say i am a northerner and i miss my seasons. I loved Fl at first but i can only take so much heat ya know. Fl is a great place to visit not to live unless ur retiring lol. I lived in Syracuse when i was younger and loved it but I am moving there now because my partner got a job offer out there. I am very excited to be moving back up north. On the other hand i have no idea why it is so hard to find a place that excepts small dogs. Do you know anything about the Lofts/Apartments downtown. I have been looking into the Lakefront Lofts they are located at 689 N.Clinton St if you are familiar with the area is it a decent one? I haven't been able to find any prices and i believe they accept small dogs. I'm waiting to get a call back hopefully it would be good news i'm keeping my fingers crossed.
