Now I just need to figure out a way to make the pool heated so it can be used most of the winter, on the cheap since I am just renting. Temporarily would be even better.

Won't have to worry too much this winter, as this will be a warmer than normal winter.

This may not be too difficult. I have seen solar pool heaters. They float on the surface of the pool. I was thinking of using them on my pond in the winter, but it could get too hot and poach my pond residents.

Ask at the local pool store or do some internet searches for solar pool heaters. You can have several of them covering the surface of the pool and you take them out when you want to use the solar warmed water.
