Hi. We would really appreciate any insight into safe areas- as well as ones to avoid- within reasonable commuting distance to Moffitt in Tampa. We are looking to rent an apartment, length of time indeterminate, with a nice view while undergoing treatment. Thank you.

Moffitt has several campuses in the greater Tampa Bay area where treatment is generally available. If you don't have to be at the main campus at USF, there may be more opportunities for better temporary housing.

Speak with your coordinator at Moffitt about alternative treatment sites.

If it’s Moffitt at USF you’re referring to then I suggest the Tampa Palms area or further north into New Tampa. The area just west of USF is rough so I’d avoid it. The areas immediately north, south, and east still aren’t too desirable but generally okay to visit.

I happen to be getting treatment at MD Anderson in Houston and they have a ton of information and special arrangements with apartments etc. I went on the Moffitt website and they state " contact the lodging department at 813-745-4589 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m." Sounds like they may have furnished apt arrangements and possible special pricing. That's the first place I would check because they know the area and that's their special area of expertise.
