TAMPA A boil water is in effect for virtually the entire city of Tampa for the next two days after a power failure today at the main water treatment facility.

The power failure created low water pressure or knocked out water service completely for customers. Crews from TECO and the City of Tampa are working on resolving the issue.

All customers within the City of Tampa water service area are should boil water for a minimum of the next 48 hours, city officials said. Additional information and details will be provided as they become available.

Boiling water freezes faster than cold water. Try it out! Make some ice.

i saw on the news that a hungry, now likely dead, squirrel chewed through some power or control line causing this. glad to see there are backup generators and redundant systems...

I've read the articles, and it seems this is related to the city and not the complete county (Hillsborough). Am I right?

Yes. County is supplied by different source.

It's like Mad Max out in the grocery store water aisles this morning. Nothing like a boil water notice to bring out the crazies, apparently. Worse than a pre-hurricane freakout! If you want some bottled water to make coffee better go get it now.

I went to a restaurant last night that was serving bottles of water instead of tap, and they mentioned that they sent someone out yesterday afternoon to clean out the local supermarket of bottled water and bagged ice so that they could keep operating. I can't imagine trying to run a restaurant while under a boil order.
