Hi, I am being transferred from Nashville to the Tampa Bay area for work, and I need some advice on where to live. My husband and I would like to rent for a while so we can get to know the area, we'd like to keep rent below $1200. I think an aparment complex might be a wise choice for us since we will be completely new to the area. We have strictly indoor cats, so we definitely need a pet friendly place. I'm having trouble doing this search remotely since most people only review complexes when they've had a problem, so it's hard to get a clear picture. I'll be working in the Carrollwood/Linebaugh Ave. area, and I would like to keep my commute below 30 minutes. My husband works from home, so we would like a 2-3 bedroom place. In a nutshell, what areas should I focus on and which should I avoid? Are there any complexes that are notoriously bad? I appreciate your thoughts! Thanks!

The 33618 zip code is where I would start looking. I know there are more than a few apartment complexes towards the Northern end of the zip code that look nice. A younger friend of mine lives in one with his girl friend and doesn't have anything bad to say about it.

If I were to live in that area, I would probably want to live up by Northdale Blvd or North of that as it is a little slower paced. But you have some good options IMO right there in Carrollwood. No sense driving 30+ minutes when you first get here and start looking around. I think you will like what you see.

Tennessee transplant and Carrollwood resident here. If I were you, I would look north of Linebaugh Avenue and west of Anderson Road in zip code 33625. There are some nice apartment communities in Citrus Park around Sheldon Road. There are some privately owned townhouses in the Linebaugh and Anderson Road zip code 33625 area as well. The most attractive area will be Westchase in zip code 33626. I don't know too much about rent prices and pets, but these general areas are very good and well within your commute time. As a newcomer, I would avoid the Town and Country area zip code 33615 until you know the area better.

Thank you both so much! I saw that there were plenty of fairly affordable complexes nearby, but all the reviews were very negative. I know that you have to take those sort of reviews with a grain of salt, but I just wanted to make sure the area was safe. Thank you for your suggestions!
