Overnight fire destroys Brooksville restaurant

A fire destroyed a well-known Brooksville restaurant early this morning.

Papa Joe's Italian Restaurant, 6244 Spring Lake Highway, was fully engulfed in flames with thick smoke and unsafe to enter when Hernando County Fire Rescue crews responded around 3 a.m.

The building was believed to be unoccupied, fire officials say.

No other buildings were affected, fire officials say.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.

So sad for the family of this business. Had a great bday celebration there with family and friends many years ago.

What a shame. We used to eat there quite often. Definatly the best Cannelloni in Hernando County.

I just heard about this from some of my friends up there. What a terrible loss. It was one of the best Italian restaurants in the area. Hopefully they will rebuild. Papa Joe is a super nice guy, by the way.

Just a few days ago someone recommended that place to me.

My mother-in-law is a real-deal Italian, born and raised in the old country. She's always wanting to check out Italian restaurants to find ones she likes. I hope they rebuild as well.
