Which city has more jobs in your opinion and experience? Jacksonville area or Tampa Bay?

I have been talking with friends in both places and naturally, the person in Jacksonville says JAX, and the person in Tampa Bay says Tampa.

I have searched online and the job market looks kind of similar in both places. What do you think?

As of July 2014, Jacksonville has a lower unemployment (6.6) rate than the Tampa metro (6.8). As of May 2013, the Jacksonville metro has a median hourly wage of $15.53 while the Tampa metro is at $15.45. All this info is from BLS.gov.

Thank you for that info. They are very close! That is what I have found online doing searches for different job titles in both cities.

This is going to be a difficult decision! Tampa or Jacksonville? But at the very least, no more snow in my immediate future...

In my experience Jax gets more winter than the Bay area. The summers are not significantly cooler. We only lived in Jax for 1 year, 10 years in Clearwater and 13 in Treasure Island. Jax is culturally southern, the Bay is mixed.

It really boils down to what u do for a living; how much competition is already around, and how you stand above it. (& of course "who you know!")

Lower chance of sinkholes in Jax, and from what I've read, statistically a lower chance of being struck (directly) by a hurricane. Jax is something like 1 in 100. Tampa is 1 in 25.

Other than that, Tampa > Jax by miles.
