Hi All,

I wanted to know is there anyway I could land a job knowing HTML and CSS down in Tampa? I can code HTML from scratch. I don't have a degree in it. I am self taught. I was just wondering if I could find work using this skillset down in Tampa and where I can find work? I would be grateful for any advice. Do they have intern jobs there? I am a career changer.

Thanks so much!

Not really. Just look at the job descriptions posted for web designers on Indeed.com etc. Everyone wants a four year degree + two or more years of experience.

The times when "self taught" was considered are long gone.

You might be able to land some contract work if you have examples of your work or referrals from people you have done work for.

I doubt very much that any employers would hire you directly without some proof of your ability or references addressing previous work product.

Tampa may be considered backwards, but it's not THAT backward.

Just out of curiosity, where are you located now? For many of us, the Tampa job market has long been known as being lackluster at best.

Thanks for the advice people. I am located currently in NY on Long Island. I want to move to Tampa. I keep hearing its a great IT job market down there. Then again it may all be hype. I reached out to the Tampa bay technology forum. They told me to go to a code school type boot camp but its about 10 grand which I don't have. Also they said I could pay 25 bucks a month and learn online from codeschool.com. I am not sure which is the best way for me to get really good enough to find work. Either paying online or maybe some classes. What do you guys all think?
