Most areas around large universities in cities are not going to be great areas because students will be lower rent and it will be constant change in population.

Don't ever go to other universities.

With that said, the area around USF isn't that bad.

Agreed. I've spent a decent amount of time there and it's really not that bad at all.

I have an engineering degree from USF. It's a great engineering school, albeit with facilities that show their age. I was there a few weeks ago and the primary engineering building and math/physics building looked exactly like I remembered, while there were random new medical buildings all over the place. Unfortunately, most of the money is in the med school, which my wife is a graduate of and I'm a past employee of, and a great deal of that money is in grants, so it's not money that gets shared with the more neglected parts of campus. I would love to see USF take over more of the surrounding areas; the 'college feel' is really lacking at USF compared to other schools, but more housing and more people living immediately around it would help with that. I wish Ghetto.... I mean University Mall was going to be torn down, but sounds like they're actually going to add on to it for some unknown reason.

Well, maybe success depends more on the person than the school. When you're a complete and utter life failure like me, then you're gonna fail at your life no matter what you do.

I also have engineering degree from USF, and disagree it's a great engineering school. Engineering programs are not strong there (in my opinion). It stands #63 out of 100 schools. Far from the top. Welcome to Best-Engineering-Colleges.com!
Don't get me wrong, you still can get an engineering degree that will pay your salary, but I cannot call it great school, sorry. Even UCF ranked higher...
