~ If you are looking for old fashioned, home grown iced cream try Dairy Isle on 9th St North & about 15th Ave North in St Pete. There is also one on 4th St North, at about 26th Ave North that's also been in business for quite a long time.
Have a wonderful Weekend!

I quit going there after they were shut down by the health department last summer due to serious violations. I can't get over the thought of rat poop in my ice cream. They used to be good years ago but I won't go back. I just go to Steak and Shake now if I want a milkshake.

Strachan's is the best! Sungroves is a close second. Both are in Pinellas.

Dough on South Macdill in Tampa has some crazy in house flavors and donut cones. Revolution Ice Cream in Brandon is supposed to be great too.

Sorry to tap on this thread, but does anyone know where I can get affogato in Tampa area? While we were scouting the east coast, it was hard to find an ice cream shop that makes affogato. One gelato store where I got affogato didn't have it on their menu but the clerk who was Italian just made one for me and he asked me how I know affogato as if it is not something a lot of people know about.

I am an absolute ice cream fanatic and I even make my own ice cream. We have crappy ice cream places in this area.

Frozen custard, frozen yogurt, frozen soft serve, frozen ice -- NONE OF THESE THINGS ARE ICE CREAM, and they are all sad imitations of the real thing.

The person looking for affogato must be high on drugs and thinks they accidentally landed in New York City or something. If you find affogato here that is worth eating (doubtful), please PM me. I would love to try it.

As far as ice cream shops that sell quality ICE CREAM, with flavors like Toasted Coconut and Cherry, or Salted Caramel Brioche, buy a plane ticket and go to Jeni's in Atlanta.

Neither Dough nor Revolution are worth patronizing.

Jeni's is great. I went to the Decatur store, and they actually sell batches at Targets around here. I don't know, there's got to be a few good ice cream spots, I'm sure at least a few mentioned were pretty good, and I don't know if you like any kind of Soft Serve, but Mixon's Swirl is pretty GOOD. Don't know if you've had it though.

There use to be a Cuban ice cream shop rather Cuban run ice cream shop on Columbus it was called snack city before I moved here that use to be the best thing about coming to see my in laws. I am not huge on ice cream but I i usually can't pass up some sort of nutella related gelato there is no shortage of that in Tampa, the macadamia nut ice cream at berns dessert room is also pretty good.
