They are Tampa Bay cuisine. The Cuban was invented in Ybor city and Tampa Bay is well known for it's fried grouper sandwiches.

Sorry to be contrary but neither floats my boat.

Cuban....I don't like pickles and yellow mustard on anything. Give me a soft-shell crab BLT...mmm!

Grouper...sandwich or fillet, I don't 'get' its popularity (or price!). I find the fish a tad coarse...have tried it numerous places, including with people having it at the same time who raved about it, so it's not like I haven't given it a fair chance. Prefer grilled salmon or seared tuna or spiced steamed shrimp any day. Heck, even deep fried catfish is tastier than grouper. I think it's all hype when it comes to grouper.

Try the Grouper cheeks at the Palm Pavillion in Clearwater Beach sometime.

You may become a convert yet.
