I've lived in Tampa for about 8 years now, either at the university or at a few different student housing complexes right next to it. I'm looking for a new place so that I can finally live in a 1 bedroom apartment, and I seem to have found a very reasonably priced one that's off of Fletcher near Nebraska. However, I have a friend that says I really shouldn't live there since I'll be putting things at risk for getting stolen/broken into. Just wanted to hear some opinions regarding that. I'm a 25 year old single male, if that helps.

Sometimes as a young profession your budget requires that you live in less than ideal neighborhoods until you get your feet on the ground and build up a emergency fund/nest egg, etc....I know nearby Fowler/Nebraska has always been considered as a less than desirable part of town. Perhaps you can pull up some crime stats from Hillsborough County for the area you're looking at.

I remember that street, from 20 years ago, "Nebraska". Do they still have a problem with hookers walking up and down Nebraska?

That's the running stereotype/joke, but I don't think I've ever seen one. I don't really pay attention, though.

One man's "problem" is another man's relief. Joking of course.

But I recall Nebraska being a bad place - one to avoid - when I was at USF several decades ago.....

If you lived on or near USF for 8 years, I am surprised you have not passed through this area before. Personally, if on Fletcher, I would stay East of Bruce B Downs Blvd.

I've passed through it plenty of times, but I would rather get the inside scoop than judge a book by its cover. You don't really "see" crime just by driving through an area.

Nothing good about living anywhere near that area. Rough drug town.

Just take a look at the crime map and the sex offender map, and you will have a pretty good picture.

I hate driving through that part of town. It's congested and dirty/run down. Thankfully I don't have to venture over that way often.
