... around St Pete, which is your favourite ?

It's a bit of a hobby of mine visiting out of the way bars which have a local feel to them.
Two of my favourites are in Pass-a-grille, being The Wharf which is a neat, waterside boozer and Shadracks which is a real dive bar in a nice sort of way.
In fact I quite like dive bars and scruffy sort of joints in general where the tourists never venture.
Anyone got any good recommendations I could try out ?

Good question - since I like to ask these types of questions myself.

The way I have always felt, dive bars have character...good stories...and some of them have really good food surprisingly - and I don't mean the frozen stuff but places who are the hidden gems under the dark and dingy lighting.

Shadracks is practically upscale compared to the way it was in the 70s. Most, if not all the places I use to visit are gone - Sandsabar, Oyster Shucker, Harp and Thistle, Driftwood, Club Detroit (but it's getting resurrected Club Detroit reopening next to Jannus Live in St. Petersburg | Things to do in Tampa Bay | Tampa Bay Times ), Skips, Clancy's.

The Billmar on TI has a cool little bar.

The Emerald (Central Ave around 5th or 6th St) might be the dive-iest dive bar in St. Pete. I do not know if they have food there. I do know, if they do have food, I would not order it.

Beaks (Grand Central) is an interesting place; and good food ever since the chef from Three Birds went there.

They've been going for four decades so I reckon they'll still be around when you leave Florida.
Sorry, IF you leave Florida.

On the plus side their website says they're proud not to serve Budweiser.
Sounds like I gotta pay this place a visit.
