With the site chosen, Publix could open a smaller store to accommodate surface level parking, or open a larger store with a parking garage. A smaller store with surface level parking appears to be a cost effective proposal that would be quicker to build.

Taking this discussion even further, e-commerce has really made the whole notion of "going to the store" as archaic as washing clothes by hand. Why? Because why would we go to the store and waste all that time and those resources just to take the risk of not finding what we need or are looking for? You can avoid all that waste by just going online.

And I say this as someone who loves going to stores!

However, imagine how many hours, days, months I have wasted going to the store, whether it's Macy's or Publix or Costco, only to find that they do not have the item I need to buy.

That sort of wasted exercise I think is eventually going to be mostly eliminated by e-commerce.
