Top 50 Restaurants of Tampa Bay for 2018 | Food | Tampa Bay Times

I find it interesting that the only "Cuban restaurant" in this list is some new chain that is owned and operated by non-Cuban New York transplants.

Isn't Tampa Bay supposed to be the home of the Cuban sandwich and a bastion of stellar Cuban food? Doesn't Tampa Bay have a large Cuban population that loves Cuban food?

Apparently not.

This list basically confirms what I have said for years. Tampa's Cuban restaurants are appallingly bad, and Miami takes the crown as having the best Cuban/Latin culinary scene in Florida.

I guess that leaves Tampa Bay with what, home of the Grouper sandwich? Oh, but the majority of the grouper we get is actually some junk from Asia.

Sad!

Thanks for posting the URL. Although I recently moved out of Tampa, and a couple of claimed gems in the list were near my last residence. Unfortunately I never tried them.

You sound like the reviewer culbreathbayou.

Which is why outside of the Tampa Bay area very few know of the history, and perhaps is related to the glaring lack of a Cuban neighborhood/community that cherishes the heritage like what you find in Miami.

If the review missed mentioning Beach Bistro a bit south on Anna Maria, they missed one of the finest offerings in the Tampa Bay region.
