Hello,
My wife and I are in our mid 40's we have a 5 yr old and 19 yr old daughter's We are looking to move to Tampa sometime in the next couple of years, We are from Union City NJ looking for a neighborhood in Tampa that is similar middle class Cuban area not ghetto . My wife is Cuban and We would prefer to be in a mostly Spanish speaking area middle to upper class with good school system. Any advice and direction would be appreciated.

Sorry, but this doesn’t exist in Tampa. The main Cuban areas, Town N Country and West Tampa, aren’t Upper-Middle Class and don’t have good schools.

I suggest Miami instead.

^^^^^^^^ Exactly this.

What the OP (and many others) don't understand about Tampa is that it's a cheapo sub for Miami. But with that comes certain, shall we say, "compromises," and quality of neighborhoods and schools are two of them.

Yes there are middle and upper class Cubans in Tampa, but they are FEW and FAR between. The majority of the Cubans in Tampa are lower income and many are recent arrivals (within last 10 years).

Oh yeah and another thing: Compared to the Union City schools, most of the public schools in the Tampa area are going to seem, um, substandard. NOBDOY moves to Florida for the schools........

What the OP is looking for is Miami, but yes Miami is extremely expensive.

So my recommendation: Prepare to PAY for Miami real estate and private school.

Other than Danashores and a few high end hoods it's been run down since the 60's.

I hate to admit that I agree with this. Not so much ghetto, maybe, but a bit rough around the edges.

It's pretty amazing how run-down it STILL is even after all the wealth that has come to Tampa since the pandemic. Seriously dumpy in SO MANY areas. The only area that isn't dumpy is Hyde Park Village and Water Street, which are both SO SMALL it will take you no more than 5 minutes to cover each of them........

The homeless problem is also REALLY REALLY bad currently in Tampa (it started getting worse around 2014), and today it rivals the scenes I have recently seen in LA, SF, NYC etc.

That area around Marion/Morgan/Scott street is HORRIBLE. Literally tent city.

And Harbour Island, Davis Island, Golfview, Beach Park, Culbreath Isles, Bashore Beautiful, etc.

I’m not arguing Tampa is nice because I don’t like it either, but it isn’t as bad as you’re making it out to be.
