I have cut way back on the amount I spend each year. Two years ago, I realized that if I had saved just half of that money each year, I would have been able to buy my son a used car when he got his driver's license. I will never again put my students ahead of my own children -- especially since I never once had a student or an administrator thank me for using my own money.

As a retired teacher, I do regret that I did put my students first at times. Luckily, it was not often and not in major ways but I still regret it.

Many retired teachers, including me, regret the large amount of money that we spent on our students over the years. I certainly could use that money right now.
