We are going to be visiting a zoo within the next 1-3 weeks. We have been to the zoo in Memphis several times before. We are thinking about trying out the zoo in Knoxville while we are in Pigeon Forge. So is the Knoxville zoo better or should we just stay with Memphis? I noticed the prices were higher at Knoxville so I thought it might be better than Memphis. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If the "we" includes kids, definitely visit Knoxville. The "Kids Cove" is really great for the younger set.
ZOO
The Knoxville Zoo has some good exhibits and is of manageable size.

The Memphis zoo has pandas, Knoxville doesn't. Otherwise I think they're very similar.

If you are down in Florida, be sure to visit the Jacksonville Zoo. It is a terrific zoo. I've been to the Atlanta Zoo, New Orleans, and The Bronx. The Jacksonville , FL Zoo is better than any of those.

My house is the most active zoo I know; it's near Knoxville.

Default Knox Zoo

This is a slightly unusual "either/or" as these zoos are, what, 7 hours apart?

I suppose it could depend on where you are coming from and what you'll pass along the way?

I've not been to the Memphis Zoo, but the Knoxville Zoo is a nice way to spend the day. I like it much better than Nashville.

Do you have a zoo membership with an AZA certified zoo? If so, this zoo is probably on your reciprocal list. Admission would be free, but you would still have to pay $4 for parking, though.

This zoo is about average. Not too big, not too small. Not too fancy, not too neglected. Yes, too expensive, in my opinion; but that is why I do memberships...

Where are you coming from? Do you have a zoo near you? Depending on your family size, it could be cheaper to join a zoo with the reciprocal list. The zoo in Evansville Indiana has a family membership for $40-$50. If you attend any other zoo in the same year as you would this Knoxville Zoo, then you have saved money.

As someone already mentioned, this zoo IS a good place if you have kids. Kids Cove is a playground built into a log cabin and an area where you can play in the water. It gets busy, though. So be prepared.

During peak season, they have a few other add-ons like camel rides for $3... Also, their gift shop is THE least expensive zoo gift shop I have ever been in. (And I have been in dozens)

For those of us who live here, we are lucky enough to take advantage of the AWESOME educational classes they offer by the coolest educational director ever!

PS...
You will have some slight detour issues to deal with if you find yourself passing through downtown Knoxville this summer. Things have been moving VERY smoothly so far! So good luck!
