I live in a very small town in Texas, population around 2000. 24 hours a day, day in and day out, there's the constant boomp boomp and thunder sound of bass coming from vehicles going up and down the streets and parked at gas stations, convenience stores and everywhere else. I find this modern day phenomena very disturbing. I go to bed with this sound at night and wake up with it in the morning and get woke up all during the night and my life has been reduced to just catching short naps. The sound can be heard from several blocks away, so there is no escaping it. Even our hayseed town has a noise ordinance but police don't enforce it or practically any other type of nuisance law (such as unleashed dogs running loose, neighbors' barking dogs etc.). Instead of most people just accepting it or ignoring it, I wish there would be more of a public outcry against this noise pollution that is so unnecessary. Has anyone ever heard of an incidence where these thugs were actually fined?

This "modern day phenomena" has been around since the late 80's-early 90's...

The consolation in the nonsense, I would presume, is that those who feel it necessary to disturb the peace will be punished by deafness one day. I don't get it either, but I do agree it has been around for many decades. The music and the wordings of such is just getting worse.

Exactly.

And as far as the lyrics go, I think it was worse back then as well. That was an era when "freedom of expression" was pushed to the max. The music is definitely getting worse, though.

This has been going on for decades. And yes the 'music' is awful. However, I have noticed fewer people engaging in this behavior, at least in SE Houston. Some places do enforce the noise ordinances, but it depends on where you live.

In Clear Lake it is almost non-existent nowadays.

Now growing up in the 90s in SW Houston, completely different story. Some of those systems would rattle things off the walls.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is not a "rap sucks" thread. loud music is loud music. the genre or content of the music is irrelevant....

to the OP: just contact the police and keep at it until they do something about it. it's a small town, it's not as if they have anything better to do.

where i live currently, loud rap is pretty much as common as loud tejano and rock music, so i don't want to hear that tired excuse that it's just the rap "thugs" that are always the culprits. it may be in timetraveler's case, but it isn't always

Ummm . . . near as I can tell, the only person on this thread mentioning rap or ANY specific kind of music is you.

Unless some post was deleted before I saw it, reviewing the thread, that's the case.

they didn't reference it directly, but it's clear that rap music is what they were speaking of. when terms like thugs or "music" (in quotations) are thrown around, it's not hard to see what they're talking about. ask them; i'm sure they won't deny it.
