After reading the responses, I guess I'll have to curb my CA driving habits when I move to Texas . Here, for the most part, IF you're going the speed limit on the freeway (70 in most areas), you'd better be in the slow lane because most drivers including the cops will be going between 80-90 unless there's some kind of traffic holdup.

In the whole 15 years that I lived in socal, I got 2 violations. I've got 3 violations in just the last 5 years that I've lived here in San antonio (1 for expired inspection sticker and 2 for speeding). I think that it's because of the lack of State funding that the localities are extra vigilant for anybody that breaks ANY rule that they can ding you for.
Believe me, once you get here, you won't be able to speed as much because the local drivers that drive slow will keep you in check or in the case of Austin, the traffic tie-ups will have the same effect.

It depends on my sixth sense as well as the legal probable cause necessary for pulling you over.... you are technically breaking the law so legally you give me a good reason to stop you.... but out of the thousands of cars that might pass me in a day going "a couple over" why would I be attracted to you?

Youthful driver?
Other driving unsafe or stupid?
Look like a dirtbag?.. and beg me to pull you over?
Give me the "aw crap Im dirty" look?
Make my police-o-meter go off?

There's a million things.. maybe its not your lucky day

But the bottom line is... its pretty hard NOT to violate some vehicle code while we ALL drive... so do your best not to violate the ones you DO know....

Got a warning today.. I set my cruise to 75 on I-20 west of Fort Worth where the speed limit is 70 (and it was just a few miles before the speed limit changed to 75.)

It's difficult to give tickets for 5mph or less over the limit because speedometers aren't spot on precise, neither are lasers or radar.

A GPS unit can tell you exactly how fast you were going because it calculates the time it took for you to travel from point A to B. But once again, there's a little bit of lag, so it's not precise.

Usually in small towns that occurs. I remember a time in 1997, I was in a small town in east Texas. I was 19. I always have looked young for my age, so I'm guessing I looked 16 or 15, maybe even 14. I had Louisiana plate at the time.

Anyway, I was driving one mile above the speed limit in town.

Cop came out of a hiding place and pulled me over.

He looked around and inside my car from the outside, talked with me, and let me off with a warning.
