Hi Everyone

We have been considering leaving WA and heading to several states in search of less-expensive housing and cost-of-living. Texas is one state that keeps coming to the top of our list.

My husband and I are white and we have adopted 6 African-American children. We would like to live in a smaller town with a low crime rate where people of all races live side-by-side and socialize with each other.

Am I dreaming? Does such a place exist in Texas? Or anywhere else, for that matter?

Any and all information - positive and negative - is appreciated. My email is maevel@yahoo.com if you'd prefer to respond privately.

Many thanks!
Maeve

I would think that you wouldn't have too much trouble in most of Texas. Certainly the larger cities are more ethnically diversified, but even in the town I live in (pop 685) you would be welcomed with open arms. From what I've seen, most people are more likely to have issues with your personality, rather than your ethnic background.

(Not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with your personality... )

Kudos to your for putting yourself in what some might consider (at the very least) an uncomfortable situation for your adopted child. I think people in Texas are very accepting of people regardless of race. I know in my neighborhood (not a small town) you would be welcomed with open arms.

Hey I was born and raised in Tx. The equal education act was passed in Oct 1954 they intergrated our school in Sep 55. We had a better basket ball/ football team and a much better acappelia group. And ....I might add I met some very nice people that year (9th grade).
I think you would do OK in most any location as long as you are not crooks and your kids are well behaved. No one likes mean kids.
