Hi

We recently moved to Sugarland.Tx and want to buy some furniture like sofa, dining table etc for low price. Actually we moved from Arkansas and there they have some Indian community website like nwadesi.com.In that,we can find so many moving sales and can get item for low price. Can anyone know about the websites like this in Sugarland or Houston? Please advice.

Thrift Stores

Thrift stores can be pretty hit and miss for used furniture. Prices vary as well. In most cases a thrift store will have some furniture, at least end tables and other smaller items. Larger items often have a high price, though still significantly less than the price of new furniture. If the store doesn't have what you need, ask for information on where you may find used furniture. The stores are generally run by charities that may have information or contacts that will be assistance to you in finding cheap or free used furniture.

Used Furniture Stores

Used furniture stores generally have the best selection of furniture in one location. However, prices are often higher at these stores than other locations. If you are in the market for used furniture, you may want to browse a local store to see what is available. You can gather information on prices and then go out and see what you can find on you own. If you can't find a better deal, then you can later return to the store to make a purchase. Many used furniture stores have layaway programs or other payment programs to assist customers in making purchases. Most used furniture stores will also offer free or low cost delivery. Some larger pawn shops will also deal in furniture.

Trash Day

The most inexpensive way to find used furniture is to find free furniture on trash day. Many people simply set their old furniture out on the curb for trash trucks to pick up. Find out when trash is picked up in the nicer areas of your town and drive around early on the evening before pickup and see what is available. In most areas, it is perfectly legal to pick up things left at the curb. However, checking local laws and knocking on the owner's door and asking before taking an item can help you to avoid problems.

Classified Ads

Classified ads are the traditional source of used furniture. Prices vary, but will generally be better than used furniture stores. However, you can expect higher prices for nice couches and other larger pieces than at thrift stores. In addition to listings in newspapers and other local sources, eBay, Craigslist and other online sources may have listings for used furniture in your area. Freecycle (freecycle.org) and other similar sites are also worth checking out to find free used furniture or low cost used furniture in your local area.

Wouldn't even bother with CL or trash day. You have no idea why that stuff is being sold. Especially if that stuff is being tossed because of something like bedbugs.

Depending on which area store you go to, the 'Goodwill' and/or 'Salvation Army' stores can be a decent choice to search for used furniture. My son-in-law is an experienced antique collector/picker, and has found some real bargains in those stores.
As with everything, you need to be 'discriminating' about your likes and dislikes, and only buy what you know you can use. It won't help you to purchase something that you "might, someday have a use for" ... Of course, YMMV ...

You can get good deals from Craigslist, but you have to check often. Look for furniture consignment stores in your area - they have better quality and offer some great prices, check them often. You can also do an Ebay search for furniture by using your zip code and a 'pick-up' option. Ebay is not as good an option as the others I listed.

I would also check out the local estate sales - they are typically on weekends and most of the better ones have pictures of upcoming sales. Sales usually last 3 days, so items are priced to move fast.

I second estate sales. Furniture can be dated, or can be very nice. All depends.

It's the first of the month. Drive around to apartment complexes and look next to the dumpsters. Lots of people who move just throw their furniture away.
