Since there's not even an existing vehicle ready for testing, I'd say their expectations are woefully optimistic. Airframe certification doesn't happen quickly - and there's not even a precedent for autonomous passenger flights. Seems Uber is just trying to keep up hype to me.

Interesting concept and will definitely happen at some point. It won't be in six years, that's for sure. Certification and flight testing of the vehicles will take 3-4 years alone so unless they're to the point where they can prototype in the next year or two, it's going to be hard to meet that timeframe.

With that said, I'm glad they're pursuing it. I've felt robbed of flying cars ever since I first saw the Jetsons 25+ years ago.

Given the regulatory hurdles to be overcome alone, I hope you're REAL young if you hope to see 'em in your lifetime.

I'm in my 60's. When I was in my teens, they were talking about the autonomous cars that were "ready to go to the public". As the industry has grown, new "bugs" have been found and addressed. The REAL lion in the room, though, is hackers - who've already proven their ability to get into automobile programs and wreak havoc.

For sure. Many political assassinations in this country (and abroad) were done by the CIA or FBI hacking personal vehicles and slamming them into trees or whatnot.

Evidence for such an inflammatory accusation?
