This is just idiocy. It would have been more appropriate to replace them with white flags rather than US flags.

It's gone far beyond idiocy. It has turned into a circus of frenzied craziness and most all Americans are buyng into all the hype like there's no tomorrow. The American people (and damn, here I am, one of them) need to be pitied for their overall naivety and stupidity.

Doesn't their logo have 6 flags that are different solid colors? Why can't they just use that? It makes sense to remove the confederate flag.

*sigh*

Before I say anything, I will mention that I actually don't think this is a good idea or makes sense seeing how the name "Six Flags" came from the U.S., Texas, French, Spanish, Mexican, and Confederate flags. It references all of Texas' history without defending or condoning anything related to it.

That being said... how is this "erasing history"? Explain that to me.

We all know that the Confederacy existed. You don't really need statues, monuments, or even flags flying in the present day to remind people of a time long dead. There are no statues of Hitler, but I'm pretty sure that no one has forgotten who he is.

Could it be that the confederate flag (along with: Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas) were just being used for marketing purposes... but now that idea has outlived it's usefulness?

"“We always choose to focus on celebrating the things that unite us versus those that divide us,” said Six Flags spokeswoman Sharon Parker. “As such, we have changed the flag displays in our parks to feature American flags.”"

I wouldn't be surprised if after the heat is gone, they revert back to some multi-flag scheme minus the confederacy.

Maybe they could use the old confederate flags as toilet paper

It's just a damn theme park. Jeez, the things that people get their panties in a wad over these days. Be thankful for the decades that the park had the various flags. It could have only lasted one year. People are just itching to be bitching, and they're just making others want to ignore their petty and noisy selves.

Six Flags is not a government or a service to every resident of the state. They're a business, and can do whatever they damn want to do. Or are you bellyachers saying you want to regulate businesses in how they operate?

I personally think businesses should be able to operate how they want (I'm perfectly fine with a bakery wanting to not make a wedding cake for a gay couple, as a gay man myself), but I think we all have a right to complain about things a business does.
