This from IHS Global Insight:
Although there are increasing signs that the economy has bottomed out, IHS Global Insight’s summer forecast shows that a job recovery is still a ways off for most of the nation’s metropolitan areas. Of the 363 metros in the country, just one—McAllen, Texas—will add more than 1,000 jobs this year. Moderator cut: see comment

No surprise. That city is growing fast... Growing faster than weeds grow in the yard. (Damn weeds).

And it still stinks. Low wage jobs and big box retail does not equal growth. So many people confuse that with growth solid growth. Their population is growing due to immigration. You don't see anyone moving from any other area of Texas to live in McAllen. Eventually the Mexican immigrants will wise up and move north to Corpus or San Antonio.

Not necessarily. McAllen is becoming more racially diverse. Last time there I noticed a lot more white and asian people there. Although, I do not know too much about the area so I am really not too sure what other industries the city has to offer, other than government and medical. A lot of people in the medical field are moving to the valley due to high demand.

I have no desire to live in South Texas no matter how fast its growing. The furthest south I would ever live would be in Corpus or San Antonio & even thats pushing it.

I just heard on the news that in the month of July, Texas lost more jobs then any other state in the USA except one. They did not say what that one was. To me that was an incomplete news report but who cares what we think.

It's getting really bad out there.

I was going to say, somebody has to teach the children of the immigrants, hence the job growth.
